END OF THE REPUBLIC-BEGINING OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE
27 BC, Octavian defeats Marc Antony and Cleopatra at the battle of Actium and takes the title of Augustus and becomes the first Emperor of Rome.
FIRST ROMAN EMPEROR
Augustus (27 BC-14 AD), has two great accomplishments:
1.) When Augustus changed the legal code it made a big impact because it made it easier and faster for free people to earn their citizenship. Also, the law was easier to understand and gave more favor to the individual citizen.
2.) Another accomplishment of Augustus was making tax collectors job into a government officials so they would stop stealing money from the people.
JULIO-CLAUDIAN EMPERORS
The 5 Julio-Claudian Emperors' were Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. Their reign lasted from 27BC to 68AD.
YEAR OF THE FOUR EMPERORS-69AD
Emperor 1)Servius Sulpicius Galba- He was murdered by Otho's supporters.
Emperor 2)Marcus Salvius Otho- He committed suicide when is army was defeated by Vitellius' army.
Emperor 3)Aelius Vitellius- He was murdered when Vespansianus' army invaded Rome.
Emperor 4)Titus Flavius Vespasianus- He became the Emperor on December 21 69AD and his reign lasted until 79AD
YEAR OF THE FIVE EMPERORS-193AD
Emperor 1)Pertinax- He was stabbed to death.
Emperor 2)Didius Julianus- He was sentenced to death by the senate.
Emperor 3)Pescennius Niger- He died from battle wounds.
Emperor 4)Clodis Albinus- He was killed or committed suicide after defeat by Severus.
Emperor 5)Septimus Severus- He reigned until 211AD.

Emperor 1)Maximus Thrax- He was assassinated by his Praetorian Guard.
Emperor 2)Gordian I-(co-emperor with Gordian II)- He hanged himself.
Emperor 3)Gordian II-(co-emperor with Gordian I)- He was killed in battle.
Emperor 4)Pupienus-(co emperor with Balbinus)- He was assassinated
Emperor 5)Balbinus-(co-emperor with Pupienus)-He was assassinated

Diocletian- One of his greatest accomplishments was establishing property and income taxes to provide money for things like roads, bridges, sewers, and defenses. He also created the Tetrarchy, rule by four people. He did this because the empire was getting to hard to manage individually so he gave each of the three other people a fourth of the empire to watch over.
Constantine-After he defeats Maxentium he declares himself the ONE true ruler of Rome. His first order of business is making Christianity legal through the Edict of Milan
Theodosius-When Theodosius comes to power, he bans the gladiator games because he sees them as barbaric. Then, he makes Christianity the only religion to be practiced in the Western Roman Empire.

Odoacer, a Germanic invader defeats Augustulus Romulus and declares himself King of Italy thereby ending the Western Roman Empire
